An eye for talent, and a great goal....

Erling Haaland's latest goal showcases his sensational talent and his stats prove it - 253 goals, averaging 1.25 goals every 90 minutes of play. Clearly his talent was identified early, and nurtured to create the incredible footballer he is today. Every organisation has talent, but finding hidden talent is easier said than done. Fortunately there are easily accessible tools and strategies out there to help you do it.

Finding existing talent within your organisation can be achieved by using assessments strategically to uncover skills and potential that might not be immediately visible. These are some effective methods:

  1. Personality Assessments: Tools like the Occupational Personality Questionnaire or Hogan Personality Inventory can reveal employees’ strengths, work preferences, and styles which helps identify roles in which individuals might excel.

  2. Skills Assessments: Using business skills assessments that measure specific skills relevant to a role and/or industry. These can include technical skills, problem-solving abilities or other competencies that are crucial for your business.

  3. 360-Degree Surveys: Collect feedback from peers, line managers, direct reports or clients to get a comprehensive view of an employee’s potential. This can highlight strengths and areas for development, helping to identify and grow your future leaders.

  4. Cognitive Ability Tests: Ability tests measure critical thinking, logical reasoning, verbal, numerical and problem-solving skills. They can help identify employees who have the potential for more complex roles or leadership positions.

  5. Soft Skills Evaluation: Using specific interview techniques e.g. Behavioural Event Interviews, you can measure specific soft skills including communication, teamwork, adaptability, and other interpersonal skills to uncover employees who are strong in areas that are essential for successful leadership and collaboration.

  6. Performance Reviews and Development Plans: Regular performance reviews combined with personalised development plans can help track progress and identify emerging talent over time.

By using these assessments, you can gain a deeper understanding of your employees’ capabilities, strengths and potential, allowing you to place them in roles where they can thrive and contribute most effectively to your organisation.
